Why Mehndi Madness stays glitter free
Mehndi Madness has stayed glitter free since the very beginning, 23 years ago. Over the years the trend for glitter Henna has risen and despite many people asking for the company to start carrying glitter the business has managed to keep it strictly about Henna and the history of Henna without adding to the plastic pollution epidemic.
Glitter particles are polluting oceans and harming marine life, because glitter is made from a microplastic called Mylar. This plastic is responsible for 92.4% of the 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean and this is disruptive to marine life due to the animals mistaking the plastic for food. The plastic can cause liver damage and diseases in marine animals, along with each speck of glitter taking thousands of years to break down.
The tiny sparkles has caused an environmental breakdown in the water sources, because when the glitter is floating around they may absorb chemicals and pollutants, making them even more toxic.
It is important for all professional Henna artist who use glitter to become educated on the damaging effects glitter has on the environment and to change their ways by promoting their Henna without the use of glitter. Henna is already a beautiful art form and since glitter does nothing to the Henna stain there is no point in using glitter when applying Henna.
Now let’s commit to keeping our oceans safe by allowing Henna’s beauty to shine through without glitter!
