Krysteen
I chose to have henna for my wedding for the same reasons that I chose most aspects of my big day: it is important to me, and it's beautiful! Henna has always been close to my heart, from the first time I got a misshapen little phoenix on my hand, to the gorgeous, intricate design that I wore for my wedding. Henna, to me, is a perfectly balanced way to decorate my body. It holds greater intention that my clothing, but less weight than permanent ink. It is a celebration of a specific moment in time.
Having my henna done in the days leading up to my wedding was definitely a therapeutic stress-relief (I've always loved allowing someone to work on my body, be it henna, a manicure, a new tattoo, or my hair!). But more than that, it was a chance for me to talk about my hopes and dreams for my marriage with Krysteen while she created a piece of artwork on my skin that would be with me while saying my vows. That artwork represented all of 
the good, all of the excitement, and all of the love that I experienced leading up to the wedding, and I'll always look back on that art as a blessing of happiness.
I wouldn't be the first person to view it that way, either. For millennia, henna has been used as a celebration of passage. Birthdays, marriage, and childbirth have been marked by henna since ancient times. Henna blesses new beginnings with all the wonderful intentions that we put into it. And on top of that, it is stunningly gorgeous! For me, there was never any question whether I would bless my own marriage with henna. This is a meaningful, beautiful art, and I was honored to show it off during our celebration.
