Summer is coming which means the festivals are coming too! We really enjoy participating in a variety of daytime festivals like Folklife, Bumbershoot, and various street fairs. Some of our tips from the Sasquatch guide are applicable to surviving a daytime festival as well, so make sure and read that.
Here are some tips on surviving a daytime festival:
- Dress in layers – Bring a backpack with you and bring an extra set of clothes. This is especially true if you plan on jumping in the fountain at the Seattle center! If you plan on staying until dusk, pack a jacket and maybe pants in case it gets chilly.
- Avoid hunger – daytime festivals are usually about the food, but make sure to pack some snacks and lots of water for between meals. You’ll be walking around a lot and having an elephant ear every hour isn’t exactly doctor recommended.
- Protect your gear – you can capture some great candid moments at festivals. If you’re a bit of a shutterbug, by all means bring your camera, but make sure to have your camera in a case as well as those brand new (and not cheap) sunglasses! Nothing brings the mood down more than a cracked lens.
- Be clean! – Pack some wet wipes and hand sanitizer so you don’t have to stop the party when you get sno-cone syrup all over your hands. There are always hand-washing stations at festivals but they’re not easily accessible.
- Expect the best, prepare for the worst – Living in Seattle means getting caught in the rain sometimes even on the nicest of days! Bring a waterproof windbreaker or a compact umbrella with you just in case.

Our last bit of advice, of course, is to get some henna! Getting henna done at a festival is a unique experience that will never be forgotten. Make sure to check our calendar for festivals that we’ll be seeing you at!
