Everyone has different skin, so naturally henna acts differently on each individual. The product stains dead layers of skin making it depend on how the individual treats their own skin, so here are some good facts to know along with tips to get your skin henna ready!
WASH...EXFOLIATE...LOTION!
Before getting a henna it is best to wash the skin thoroughly with soap and a scrubby to exfoliate the skin. This is so that the henna won’t be sitting on flaky skin shortening the life of your design. After washing and exfoliating, follow up with a water-soluble lotion like Clean & Clear Oil-Free Dual Action Moisturizer, L’Oreal Paris Hydra Genius Daily Liquid Care, or Garnier SkinActive Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream. This will prep the skin to be hydrated and smooth to create the best atmosphere for the henna.
What prevents henna/jagua from staining:
❖ Deodorant
❖ Sunscreen
If one or both of these are on the skin where your henna is going they can be removed with an alcohol wipe.
After getting the henna design leave the paste on for at least 4 hours so that it may penetrate the dead layers of skin and create a dark long lasting stain if the pre-care tips are used. The longer you leave the henna on the darker the stain, so try to leave the henna on as long as possible. The paste will dry in the first hour and will crack and fall off on its own when it’s ready to come off, so don’t pick at it while it goes through the staining process.
Don’t get the henna wet for the first 12 hours as this will stop the staining process and the design will not get any darker than what it was at the time the henna got wet. The henna will be a light orange but will darken to a brown/red color over the next 2 days.
Shower normally and stay away from harsh scrubbing and chlorine like swimming pools and hot tubs as they will shorten the life of the design. The design should last 1-2 weeks of good color and 1-2 of faded color.
