What makes a Henna artist, and how do they learn the art of Henna? Pearl Lomonaco has been practicing Henna for the past year and has just completed working her first weekend of Henna parties. We interviewed her on what it is like to practice Henna as well as how it will benefit her in the future to have such a skill.
Interviewer: What made you want to practice and learn henna?
Pearl: “I wanted to learn henna because it helps me be creative. Being able to do henna is a skill I believe will help me in the future as a part time job. Little did I know it would be so much fun!”
Interviewer: What are some ways you practice to help you learn?
Pearl: “It really helps me to warm up really quick by doing lines and dots. It also helps me to drink lots of water so that my hands don’t shake because you need a steady hand for good line quality.”
Interviewer: What are some challenges you have with doing henna?
Pearl: “Some challenges for me, is my exhaustion. I get really tired when I do up close work and it affects my work a lot.”
Interviewer: What makes henna fun to learn, are there positives to learning henna?
Pearl: “For me henna is really fun, I get to meet nice people while doing art! The people I work with are nice and super fun too!”
Interviewer: What are some achievements you had doing and learning henna?
Pearl: “Some of my achievements is working my first party. I also did a hand piece I was uncomfortable doing and nailed it!”
Interviewer: What was it like doing henna the first few times on people?
Pearl: “Doing henna on people for the first time was the worst! I had so much anxiety. But at the end of the event I realized It was ok, and I’m still alive! So now I’m fine doing it on people. Sure, I still worry about doing events. But I just push through it, and it's all good and fun.”
Interviewer: How will this skill impact you and your life?
Pearl: “This skill is definitely going to impact my future. Henna is a good way to keep me be creative and active. It’s a cool life experience I’m so happy to have.”
