Finger tipping
By: Krysteen Lomanaco ~ 7/24/2009

This is the traditional form of hennaing the tips of the fingers a solid color from the first knuckle to the tip of the finger, usually including the finger nails.  Sometimes call dipping because often you dip the fingers in a short cup of henna up to the knuckle.  If the edges are ragged , fix with your applicator and even them out.  Dipping is the easiest but henna can also be applied by hand, carefully filling in any holes.  When the fingernails are included, it can take up to 4 months for the henna to grow out with the nail.  Of course the henna on the skin around the nails will disappear within the first week since the skin exfoliates quickly there.  Finger tipping is sometimes reserved for married women but not always.  Tipping is often seen with and without any other henna decoration on the hands or fingers.  It's best to leave the henna on for several hours and during this time you can't really use your fingers much.
