In Feb. each year, the Pierce Co. Library system has a community read. This year it's Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson & David Oliver Relin. It tells the story of a man lost on K2 and taken in by a village in Pakistan. He went there to honor his sister by placing a necklace at the top of the summit but what he learned and accomplished honored her memory much more. This book tells about his incridable journey to "promote peace, and honor every child in the world with the right and privilage to learn to read, write and go to school as stated in Article 26 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights." This mans journy and accomplishments along with the many people who have helped him have literally changed the world we live in. There are 3 versions of this book, an adult, young adult and child's board book. If you want to be inspired by someone promoting peace in the harshest conditions, learn more at
www.threecupsoftea.org It is wonderful for me and Mehndi Madness to be involved in this program. The libraries look for programs that will promote interest in the Community Reads events. We are doing a Henna lecture and tattoo samples at 10 libraries between late Jan. and mid-Feb. Check the events calendar to see where and when. They have hundreds of these books available for check out. Come join us. We hope to see you there.
