We made t-shirts to wear this summer. It was surprisingly easy and a lot of fun. Very inexpensive too. We used t-shirts we wanted to re-purpose or got them from the thrift store.
You'll need these materials:
1-2 Clorox Bleach Pens, depending on how big your design will be.
1 t-shirt sized piece of cardboard
an applicator
design ideasPlace the cardboard inside the t-shirt to protect the back from the liquid bleach. You can draw directly on the material with the bleach pen but your design will be clearer with better detail if you use an applicator like a jaquard squeeze bottle or a henna applicator, like the heat sealed cone I'm using.
Gather some design ideas from a book or the internet, if you need inspiration. Some people want to draw the design on with a pencil or water color marker before using the bleach pen. I just went for it without a design mapped out.Be sure to leave large spaces between the lines of your design. The bleach spreads 2-3 times larger. If you don't leave room then your design will become a blob.
After drawing the design, I let it sit for 30-60 min. The color came out of the shirt and slowly turned white. Then I removed the cardboard and put it in the washer on cold. I'm really pleased at how they turned out. Ashley got a lots of detail in hers and the style is unique.
